Experience Saimaa wildlife
From the beginning of May until middle June, is the high season for nature lovers in Finland. Finland’s long winter season is then finally over and nature is ready to bloom. 18 hours of daylight boosts everything in nature: Taste wild herbs when they are on their best, admire osprey’s plunge or observe birds’ nesting rituals. On top of this in Charming Oravi village you are able to get to know the world’s most endangered seal that can be found only in lake Saimaa. The grey-furred pups are born around February-May, into sheltered snow caves, weighing at their birth, a modest 4-5 kg (10 lbs). The mother will nurse the pup until May, after which the pup will learn how to fish its own food. Molting season for all the seals is during May and beginning of June, during this period we can see the seals throughout the day sunbathing on the rocks. On this safari you will enter deep into the Linnansaari national park, to the home waters of osprey and the seals. On this tour our main goal is to experience the blooming nature and to get to know about seals’ life as well give you spectacular photoshoot opportunities! You will be guided by one of our wilderness guides specialized in seals. Safaris are made with open boats to give the participants the best possibility to study the Saimaa wildlife. After some observing we will select one of the dozens of islands to go on shore. While the guide prepares a small snack with coffee/ tea and salty/ sweet roll, you can explore the island. We'll enjoy the coffee in the wild. All our wildlife safaris are done in small groups with no more than 11 passangers. In a small group and with an experienced nature guide the chance of spotting seal is very good. On our wildlife safaris we guarantee great nature experiences without disturbing the animals.
